Threads

Threads is Instagram's text-based conversation app, built for communities that gather around the topics they care about, from today's interests to tomorrow's trends. You can follow favorite creators, connect with people who love the same things, or build a following of your own to share ideas, opinions and creativity.

Starting is deliberately simple for Instagram users. Your Instagram username and verification badge are reserved for you, and you can automatically follow the same accounts you follow on Instagram in a few taps. From there, a new thread is your space to say what is on your mind, and replies are where much of the action happens, with commentary, humor and insight from creators you follow.

Control stays with the person posting. Settings and controls manage who can see your content and reply to your threads, so a conversation can stay open or be kept closer as you prefer. That makes Threads usable both for public discussion and for quieter exchanges with friends and familiar accounts.

It also works as a place to find things. TV recommendations, career advice and answers to everyday questions sit alongside the latest trends and live events, whether the subject is new music, a movie premiere or sports. Threads is also part of the fediverse, a global, open social network of independent servers, which connects it to a wider conversation beyond a single app.
