About Reddit
Reddit calls itself the heart of the internet, and the claim rests on structure: more than 100,000 communities — subreddits — each a forum dedicated to one topic and run by its own members. Whatever the interest, there's a room for it, from r/worldnews and r/gaming down to forums for hobbies you didn't know had names.
The biggest rooms show the range: r/AskReddit runs open Q&A at enormous scale, r/funny trades in memes and jokes, r/todayilearned surfaces strange facts, and AMAs — Ask Me Anything sessions — put celebrities, politicians and experts in front of unfiltered questions. Anonymous profiles run through all of it: people post and comment without their real names, which is exactly why the advice threads on relationships, careers, parenting and health get answers people would never sign publicly.
Instead of likes, Reddit runs on votes: upvotes push good posts and comments up, downvotes bury the rest, and the running total is your karma. Karma doesn't unlock the site — the listing is clear it doesn't directly affect your ability to use Reddit — but it can raise the visibility of what you post.
Ads support the free version; Reddit Premium removes them and adds premium avatar gear and access to r/lounge, billed monthly or annually on a recurring basis. Come with a question, a niche obsession, or just an hour to lose — the front page will happily take all three.
