Truecaller: Spam Call Blocker

Truecaller is a caller ID and spam-blocking app for the calls and messages you did not ask for. It identifies who is calling even when the number is not saved, separating businesses from spam numbers, and it can automatically stop telemarketers, robocallers, scammers and sales calls before they reach you. A reverse number lookup also lets you check a name behind an unfamiliar number.

Its spam database is updated in real time by millions of users, and blocking can be filtered by country, number sequence, unknown numbers and more. Call history, contacts and block lists can be backed up and restored through Google Drive. Truecaller can also serve as a main texting app, with inbox tabs for Personal, Important, Other and Spam, and automatic blocking of spam, scam and telemarketing SMS.

Two AI features deal with newer kinds of fraud. AI Call Scanner records a voice sample and analyzes it in real time to tell whether you are speaking to a real person or a bot, distinguishing human voices from AI-synthesized ones. Truecaller Assistant can answer calls, ask who the caller is and why they are calling, and identify spam, scams and robocallers; the source puts that accuracy at over 90 percent, and it can use your own voice so callers hear something familiar.

Call recording covers incoming and outgoing calls, with an AI-generated subject, an automatic summary and a full written transcript for reference. Free calls are available through Truecaller Voice, and Video Caller ID selfies are offered for friends and family. Premium adds an ad-free experience, call screening, call recording, profile-view checks, Ghost Call, Announce Calls and Incognito Mode, while Truecaller Family adds remote ending of suspicious calls, real-time scam alerts and shared block lists.
