Telegram

Telegram is the messenger that treats chat as cloud software. Messages sync across all your phones, tablets and computers at once, and the apps are standalone — start typing on one device, finish on another, no need to keep your phone connected the way some rivals insist. Telegram bills it as the fastest messaging app on the market, run on a distributed network of data centers around the globe.

Scale is where it separates from ordinary chat apps: group chats hold up to 200,000 members, and media and files can be sent without limits on type or size — your whole chat history lives in the Telegram cloud, taking no disk space on your device for as long as you need it. It's also built to deliver on weak connections using as little data as possible.

Privacy is the brand, stated in its own terms: Telegram says it will never give third parties access to your data, and for maximum privacy there are Secret Chats, whose messages can be set to self-destruct. The platform is free, with a fully documented free API for developers, open-source apps and verifiable builds — an unusually open stack for a top-five app that claims over 1 billion active users.

The fun layer is standard but complete: photo and video editing tools, animated stickers and emoji, fully customizable themes, all inside an interface kept deliberately simple. Reception comes with a shrug, though: 1B+ downloads at a middling 3.8 stars — a giant many people rely on daily while arguing with its choices. If your group chat has outgrown everyone else's limits, this is where it moves.
