ChatGPT

This is the official ChatGPT app — OpenAI's own, free, with your conversation history synced across devices, so the chat you start on your phone is waiting on your laptop. For hundreds of millions of people this is simply what 'ask the AI' means, and the app's job is to make that instant.

The keyboard is optional. Advanced Voice Mode turns it into a real-time conversation — tap the soundwave icon and talk: settle a dinner-table debate, practice a new language, think out loud on a walk. Photos go the other way: snap a handwritten recipe to transcribe it, or point at a landmark and ask what you're looking at.

Images come back, too: generate an original picture from a description, or transform one you have with a few words of instruction. The everyday uses stack up quickly — gift ideas and a personalized greeting card to go with them, a detailed travel itinerary, marketing copy and business-plan brainstorming for work, and explanations pitched exactly at your level, electricity-for-a-dinosaur-obsessed-kid included.

There's even a limited-availability option to share your screen via Accessibility Services so it can see what you're stuck on — a sign of where this is heading. As a default assistant for writing, learning, advice and quick answers from whatever's in your kitchen, it's the benchmark everyone else gets measured against.
