Character.AI is an app for chatting, calling, texting, and creating with AI Characters. Those characters are described as responding intelligently, remembering past conversations, and adapting to a user's style. The catalog is built from millions of user-generated characters, covering many genres and personality types, from legendary heroes and mischievous villains to loyal sidekicks.

Interaction can happen by text or by live voice call, and users can switch between the two. That choice shapes how a session feels: a typed exchange suits a slow story or a quick question, while a call suits a longer roleplay or a spoken conversation. The listing states that unlimited AI conversations and voice calls are free.

Creation is a central part of the app. Character Creation tools let users design custom AI chatbots with unique personalities, backstories, and even voices, without coding skills. A few prompts are enough to start, and the resulting characters can be used to build new worlds, invent fictional universes, craft alternate timelines, or create personalized assistants for learning, storytelling, or creative brainstorming.

The community side works like a discovery feed. Users can find characters created by others, follow favorite creators, and share their own creations. The listing points to roleplay, fan fiction, RPG adventures, collaborative storytelling, and unexpected plot twists as common uses, with millions of creators, explorers, and storytellers taking part.
